Summary: At a sleepover, Chris tells a ghost story and Dan comforts his best friend~


"Okay, you first Chris," I smirk with a nervous Phil by my side, a blue quilted blanket covered his mouth and his normally soft blue eyes were wide open, laced with fear. Phil's fear of ghosts and ghost stories was one of the cutest things ever.

Chris flicks on his small black flashlight which illuminated a tiny portion of the dark rec room we sat in and began his story. "Alright cool, I call this one 'the Tale of Headless Mary," Chris clears his throat dramatically for effect. "Rumor has it, waaaay back in the 1700's a girl named Mary and her brother Peter lived in this house. The two were poor and Mary was almost always sick, her skin a ghastly shade of white all the time, and her eyes as grey as the cobblestone roads she used to walk 2 hours daily to walk her brother home from school"

I glance to Phil who nods, "Why is it called 'the Tale of Headless Mary?"
"I'll get to that!" Chris snaps, "One day after bringing her brother home Mary began to feel a bit strange. The first thing that happened was whenever she sat down to knit clothes for her and her brother, her face would become icy cold"

"Where are their parents?" I inquire with obvious doubt etched in my tone.
"They died when she was nine"
"Who?"
"Mary!"
"Oh"
"Aaaaanyways, her knitting chair was in that corner next to Phil" Phil looks to his side and then quickly turns back to the storyteller who grinned. "The second thing that happened to poor Mary was one day she stood in her kitchen peeling potatoes for supper that evening when she heard a bloodcurling shriek. To her horror, in her brother's room lay Peter with blood splattered all over the walls and floor with a note that simply said 'You're next'"

Phil's face lost all color like I imagine Mary's face looked like all the time.

"Mary was scared like she should've been but she couldn't tell anyone about her brother's death because she'd be sent to a girls home so she cleaned the blood and threw her brother into the harbor later that night. The townspeople found Peter and accused Mary of murder. She was beheaded infront of over 1000 people. It is said that Headless Mary wanders around this house at night and beheads innocent people like she was" Chris ended the story in a hushed tone.

"What's wrong Phil?" Phil's eyes stayed wide open as he looked into the distance. "Nothing,"  he mumbled through his blanket.
"Are you scared?"
"Maybe.." I wrap my arms around his slender waist and bury my head into his neck.
"Don't worry.." I murmur, "I'll protect you"

Chris playfully throws a pillow at my shoulder, "Get a room, love birds"

"Will you make sure Mary doesn't come get me tonight, Dan?" Phil's voice shook with the question.
"Of course, i'm not letting my Phil go that easily,"
"Never let me go?"
"Of course, goodnight love.." I groggily whisper into the crook of Phil's neck.
"Goodnight Dan, thank you~"
